Service Description

Bishop Challoner Sixth Form strives to ‘Challenge, Support, Achieve” through a rigorous programme of intensive, year-round academic, pastoral and careers guidance. Students achieve outstanding results in both BTEC and A level courses.

Our excellent staff offer support that is individually tailored to each student throughout a wide range of two year BTEC and A Level courses.

You will benefit from the best facilities in Tower Hamlets with music practice rooms and a recording studio, state of the art science labs, dance studios and first class sporting facilities. We also have a comfortable Sixth Form Centre with a cafe, computers and Wi-Fi access.

Bishop Challoner has a wealth of close and long established links with city businesses and top universities that provide talks, work experience and inspiration to our Post-16 Students. You will be assisted with preparations for personal statements and finding work experience and students applying to Oxbridge or medical school receive a dedicated programme of guidance and assistance.

Additional Information

Additional Information

You can be with us for 2 or 3 years and we will support you all the way through with individual attention. Your tutor is always available to you. If there are issues affecting your academic or social life we have counsellors available. Students with disabilities or those who need extra learning help are well supported.

We are interested in your progression and will monitor your achievement to help you make the right choices at appropriate times. If you have made the wrong subject choice or are concerned that you are not keeping up with your studies we will find the time to talk it through, offer good advice and support.

Unlike many bigger schools and colleges, the atmosphere here is intimate, caring and friendly. Teaching is usually in small classes of about 10, allowing us to give you individual attention.

We are generous with teaching time compared with our competitors; each AS level is given 5 hours.

We offer support for English and Mathematics so that those who missed the 5 GCSE at A* to C threshold can progress on to higher education. We understand that many young people have problems that might lead to difficulties achieving the desired exam results at that particular time.

The ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness is taken by all Level 3 students and gives each student an extra 70 UCAS points. This will improve the quality of Universities students can apply to. It will also broaden the range of courses for which they can apply.

We also offer specialist teaching to those students who have English as an additional language and require intensive language support.

The most gifted students are also supported and challenged. Master-classes and Summer University links are in place. As well as being offered 4 AS levels, Critical Thinking and Philosophy & Ethics AS classes are offered to those who can achieve the highest grades.
