Make Music in Tower Hamlets
Making music, as an individual or with others, has a multitude of benefits including educational, mental and social development, and supports young people's wellbeing.
Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service (THAMES) provides opportunities for children and young people to learn a musical instrument and express themselves by taking part in choirs, ensembles and projects both in and out of school including:
- The Children's Choir (ages 7-11, Mondays after school in term time)
- Wednesday Music Centre (ages 7-11, Wednesdays after school in term time, for beginner instrumentalists who are already learning)
- Saturday Music Centre (ages 7-18, Saturday mornings for instrumentalists who are roughly grade 1+ standard, and singers of all abilities)
- Soundbox Inclusive Ensembles (ages 11-25, fortnightly on Saturday Morninhs, ages 11-25 for disabled and non-disabled young people of all musical abilities)
- Youth Orchestra (ages 11-21, meets during school holidays, for instrumentalists of grade 5+ standard)

Opportunities are either free or heavily subsidised and open to children and young people who live or go to school in Tower Hamlets.
