The steps into work supported internship is an academic year long programme which typically runs from September to July. The programme is suitable for young people aged 16-24 with an education, health and care plan and takes place over 4 days a week. The programme is designed to support young people that would like to enter employment but need support to achieve this.
Student’s access work placements with 75% (three days a week) of the learners time spent in the workplace at Better leisure centres. Learner’s undertake a variety of different tasks, depending on aspirations and areas of development enabling them to build confidence and learn and develop transferable work-based skills. Placements are supported by a job coach and allocated job buddy within the centres. The remaining day is spent working towards a qualification in Customer Service and English and maths, if appropriate.
Towards the end of the programme learners will be supported with job searching, applying for jobs and interview technique to offer the best chance of securing employment.
