Background Information

Location
John Scurr School is situated on the southern side of Cephas Street, which runs parallel to the Mile End road between Globe Road in the east and Cambridge Heath Road in the west. It is about five to ten minutes walk from Stepney Green (District Line), Whitechapel (District, Metropolitan and East London Lines) and Bethnal Green (Central Line). Restricted parking exists around the school visitors need to book a visitors’ parking space by calling the main office.

Accommodation
The school is housed in a 1920's three-decker building that has three halls separated from the classrooms by corridors. The accommodation provides for a double nursery, and two classrooms per year group. Most of the classrooms are large and light. There are group-teaching rooms on all floors, and a well resourced ICT suite.

Staffing
The school enjoys a stable staff with many teachers who have been at John Scurr for over ten years and hold management responsibilities. Each year group is taught by a team of teachers and assistants. There are also nursery nurses in the Early Years, and there are many teaching assistants/special needs assistants that work with particular children. The school is supported by a Senior Admin Officer who line manages two bilingual secretaries. The school benefits from excellent premises management.

Governors
The school has a governing body that includes parents who reflect the ethnic balance of the school. The committees are for Finance and General Purposes and Curriculum and Standards Committee.
