Drawings and Prints by Doreen Fletcher, 1974-2020
Details
Description
Doreen Fletcher is an artist who has lived in East London for decades and is keen to document change. She captures the changing use of buildings and the way shop signs have faded with the passage of time. She records the disrepair of street furniture. She depicts the transformation of walls and surfaces through graffiti. These subjects and more are all the stuff of her pictures, preserved in two dimensions.
Most of the drawings and prints on display in this exhibition focus on the time between 1985-2004. This was period of great transition in the East End of London. The paintings are bound up with the artist’s own journey, her memories and her sense of place.
