Transition Support Service

Who are we?

The transition support service is provided by Tower Hamlets Family Information Advice and Support Service.  We provide impartial advice, information and assistance to support children and their families during key points of transition.  The service is available to all Tower Hamlets parents and carers and can be accessed via self-referral or referral from professionals with consent.  We can support with a range of school issues including school admissions, managed moves, exclusions and bullying.

Generally, we work with nursery, primary and secondary school aged pupils.

How can we help?

School admissions

  • Assistance with completing online application forms for reception and year 7 school places
  • Assistance with completing paper in year application forms
  • Arranging and or accompanying you to visit prospective schools
  • Providing independent advice about the different types of school in Tower Hamlets
  • Support with understanding the admission policies for different schools
  • Support with the admission appeals process

Managed moves

  • Help to understand the Managed Move process
  • Support with meetings and discussions
  • Arranging and or accompanying you to visit alternative provision and prospective schools

Exclusions

  • Facilitating dialogue between yourself and the school
  • Support with meetings and discussions
  • Helping you to understand the options available to you
  • Support with exclusion appeals process

Bullying

  • Facilitating dialogue between yourself and the school in order to resolve the situation
  • Support with the process of changing school due to bullying
