Short Breaks enables children and young people with learning disabilities and difficulties to access activities that help them have fun try new activities, gain independence and most of all make new friends. Short breaks services is one of the most commonly requested services made by parents of children with learning difficulties and disabilities

‘Sense buddies’ offers children and young people the chance to have fun, try activities and have new experiences, exercise choice, gain skills and independence, and make friends through weekly sessions. Highly personalised support is provided through a linked ‘volunteer buddy’ who is matched based on shared interests, as well as their skill and experience.

Together volunteers and their young buddies try new activities and explore community spaces including trampoline parks, soft play centres, swimming pools, dance workshops, music gigs, and sensory spaces. The service provides families with a regular and reliable break from caring. The programme is currently operating a blend of face to face and online support based on family preference.
