Covid-19 booster Vaccines Announced

Booster Jab

It has been announced that a Covid-19 booster vaccine will be available from late September, for everyone aged 50 and over. A booster, essentially a top-up jab, will help people most at risk from the severe effects of Covid-19 maintain a high level of protection, especially as we come into winter. Early data from older people suggests that the protection provided by vaccines against severe Covid-19 decreases gradually over time.

The booster vaccine will be for those aged 50 and over who had both Covid-19 jabs at least six months ago. The Pfizer vaccine will be given in the booster programme, regardless of which vaccine someone received for their primary doses. Alternatively, a half dose of the Moderna vaccine may be offered.
