Celebrate Diwali Safely

Diwali is a five-day festival which is celebrated around the world by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains. The Diwali festival runs for five days and this year it will begin on Thursday 12 November, with the most significant days of celebration falling on Saturday 14 November.

Tower Hamlets Council is delighted to be supporting a free, virtual event on Saturday 14 November in celebration of ‘Bandi Chhor Divas’, known to many as Diwali, the festival of lights.

There will be no firework display this year but Gurdwara Sikh Sangat (Sikh Temple) will be using this year’s festive occasion to demonstrate the strong bond that exists between our communities and how we all continue to come together, as one, during such a difficult period. Whilst Diwali is usually a special time for families and friends to come together in the community, obviously this year due to the current new lockdown restrictions in place it will be celebrated differently to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
