Covid-19 and the impact on Children, Families and Education Settings

Information provided by Dr Somen Banerjee - Director of Public Health

I want to update you on Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and its impact on children, families and education settings in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Schools and colleges have worked hard to provide safe places where our children and young people can learn. We hope your child is back at their school or college and has adjusted well after such a long time away from their friends and teachers.

Over the past two weeks, there has been a rapid rise in the number of Covid-19 infections in Tower Hamlets – reflecting the trend seen across London and the country. As a community, we need to work together to slow the spread of the virus to protect ourselves and each other.

You must still get tested if you develop symptoms and follow stay-at-home advice. Call 119 or visit nhs.uk/coronavirus to arrange your free test. If you having trouble getting a test, please keep trying and make sure you and your household stay-at-home until getting a test when symptomatic.

Please read the information in this leaflet in English, Bengali and Somali.  By following this advice, you will protect your family, slow the spread of the virus and keep Tower Hamlets safe.

If you are still worried about sending your child to school or college, please speak to directly to their school or college. Alternatively, call our Family Information Service on 020 7364 6495 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
