Service Description

The Tower Hamlets Breastfeeding Project offers peer support to all breastfeeding mothers in Tower Hamlets. The team is 14 breastfeeding support workers - local mothers who have breastfed and who have specialist breastfeeding support skills who speak Sylheti / Bengali and Somali as well as English.

The breastfeeding project team runs 2-hour breastfeeding antenatal classes (email to book), they visit the postnatal ward at the Royal London hospital, and they visit mothers at home to help them get off to a good start with breastfeeding.

The team runs 5 breastfeeding drop-in groups each week. Details of the groups can be found at Just turn up. No need to book.

The Tower Hamlets breastfeeding support team works alongside the health visiting service to support mothers and help them overcome any challenges with breastfeeding. A breastfeeding support worker may see you at home, at a breastfeeding drop-in session or in a child health clinic.
