Local Groups are run by parents and carers of Deaf Children, working with local health and education professionals. They give emotional and social support to families with deaf children, and give deaf children the chance to meet outside of school.
Parents have access to British Sign Language classes with a crèche. A soft play session is held each Monday morning and it is organised by the Tower Hamlets Sensory Impaired Service. Parent representatives contribute to the multi-disciplinary Tower Hamlets Audiology Working Group. There are opportunities for parents to meet socially. Outings and theatre trips are available when grant applications are successful. Membership to this registered charity is free.
The National deaf Children's Society is a charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people.
The service provides, balanced information and support for families of deaf children, and professionals working with families.
The areas covered are chidhood deafness, including newborn hearing screening, hearing loss, hearing aids, cochlear implants and hearing aids.
