"Advocacy is about speaking up for children and young people. Advocacy is about empowering children and young people to make sure that their rights are respected and their views and wishes are heard at all times. Advocacy is about representing the views, wishes and needs of children and young people to decision-makers"
We provide independent advocacy to ensure disabled children and young people's voices are heard, thereby ensuring that they live safely and confidently in their communities/placements/in care. When a young person cannot express their views the advocate endeavours to stand up for their rights and speak on their behalf to get their wishes and feelings heard. We have a Non-Instructed Advocacy Policy which supports advocates to ensure advocate's work from a children's rights perspective when a child is unable to instruct.
We attend meetings and arrange visits to meet the needs of the child.
We are commissioned to work with 5 young people at any one time and 9 across the year all referrals are generated via the children with disabilities team.
The waiting list is also managed with the disability team.
