Description

Service Description

Steps into Work runs a supported internship.

This is a one year course, September to July, four days a week, for people aged 16-25 with an Education Health Care Plan who want to get a paid job but need support to do this.

A supported internship is based at an employer in this case GLL Leisure Centres. One day a week is based at Hackney Marshes Centre where you can learn things like interview skills, job searching and applying for jobs and work towards an QCR Certificate in Employability Skills, thus improving your English and maths if applicable.

The other three days you attend work placements at leisure centres across the area including Mile End Leisure Centre, York Hall and London Aquatic Centre.

You do such tasks as setting up events, working on reception, working in the crèche, cleaning and administration. You are supported by a tutor and job coach. You also have a job buddy from GLL. In the work placement you learn team working skills, leadership skills, following instructions, being on time, working with customers and lots more.

At the end of the course you will be supported to apply for paid work with 70% of interns achieving this.
