The Special Educational Needs section is responsible for managing and issuing Educational Healthcare Plan that specify the special needs for each child and the type of education that is needed to meet their needs. If a parent believes that their child has special needs, they can make a direct request for an assessment. If agreed that might lead to a Educational Healthcare Plan of special educational needs for their child from this service. This assessment is known as a statutory assessment. Parents are also advised to discuss their child’s needs with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator Officer (SENCO) at their child’s school. The SENCO may then make a request for a statutory assessment to be carried out.
