Short breaks enable disabled children and young people to do many of the activities non-disabled children take for granted. They help them have fun, try new activities, gain independence and make friends.
Short breaks are one of the services most commonly requested by parents of disabled children. These services also offer parents and carers the much-needed break that they deserve from their usual caring responsibilities.
The Phoenix Outreach Service (POS) consists of five specialist advisory teachers. The team have experience and expertise in supporting pupils with ASD and SCD. Our vision as a service is to provide effective support for ASD pupils in mainstream schools across the borough of Tower Hamlets. We see Phoenix Special School as a centre of excellence for supporting pupils with ASD and SCD. Through the Phoenix Outreach Service, we aim to share this excellent practice with mainstream schools, in order to support successful inclusion of pupils with ASD in their school settings.
We work with pupils in school settings from school age 3 to 16 years. We work primarily with pupils with a diagnosis of ASD or SCD who have Phoenix Outreach Service detailed on their Special Educational Needs statement. We can provide training for key staff working with pupils aged 3 to 19.
