At times parents and carers need help and advice to deal with the everyday challenges of family life. Parenting programmes allow parents to share their parenting experiences, learn skills to deal with challenging behaviour and manage conflict positively.

Parents benefit from increased confidence in managing behaviour and a greater understanding of children’s development. A number of programmes are available these include Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities, Triple P and
Mellow, specific courses for fathers, courses and support for parents of children with ADHD, Somali and Bengali speakers and programmes for parents of young children and teenagers. Programmes are delivered at various venues across the borough, during the day, evenings and at weekends. Parenting programmes can be accessed by parents and carers of children aged birth – 18 years. Parents and carers can apply directly and there is also a referral route for professionals working with families.
