Additional Information

Bethnal Green Academy Sports Centre

The sports hall at Bethnal Green Academy [formerly Bethnal Green Technology College] has been open to the public in the evenings and weekends for ten years now.

Throughout the week, between 6pm and 11pm on weekdays and 10am to 8pm on weekends, the sports hall and squash courts are used by local Tower Hamlets residents as well as a variety of clubs from the wider London sporting community.

Further Information
The centre has become well known particularly amongst London’s volleyball clubs and leagues and a number of volleyball clubs including Tower Hamlets London Lynx VBC have this facility as their home ground for matches.

The users coming into the centre reflect it’s location, and in true East End style this brings an eclectic and diverse range of customers through the door. Local community tournaments are as well attended as the London wide and occasionally nation wide tournaments. The yearly All Nations Volleyball tournament has been a hot favourite on the volleyball circuit for a number of years now.

The local cricket clubs make good use of the nets between January and April each year and a more recent addition to the bookings, due to presumably an influx of Brazilians in the area, has been Futsal the quick firing form of 5-a-side footie from Brazil.

The staff working the evenings come from local community and a couple of them are ex Bethnal Green hockey champs. They keep the place going and ensure that the hall is always ready for PE lessons the next day.
