Service Description

We provide a range of support for babies, children and young people diagnosed with a dual sensory impairment, including those with additional and complex needs. The Sensory Support Service consists of specialist teachers of the deaf and of vision impairment. There are also other professionals who work with us. For example, bilingual instructors and a deaf instructor. We provide support for pre-school as well as school aged children and young people. We work in close partnership with other specialists including staff skilled in the assessment multi-sensory impaired children.

We offer the following services/sessions to parents and families:

• DOVES is a playgroup for visually impaired children aged 0 to 4 and their families.
• 'Ready, Steady, Go' parents support group for parents of pre-school deaf and partially hearing children.
• Braille course for parents of visually impaired children
• British Sign Language classes, ranging from the Family Sign curriculum up to, and including, BSL Level 2.

Services to parents are free. There is a charge to schools for some of our services. Schools can also purchase additional services.
